Trading on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM)
To be able to trade on the SEM, all individual and institutional investors are required to open a Central and Depository Settlement (CDS) Account via SBM Securities Ltd. All the relevant forms for the account opening process are readily available from Level 11, Hennessy Tower, and Port Louis or at the reception desk of the SBM Tower (Level 3) or in any SBM Branch throughout the island. We can also send these documents via email to our clients upon request.
Opening of a CDS Account
Application Forms to be filled by individual investors:

Investing in MUR denominated Bonds
For all new clients who wish to invest via SBM Securities Ltd in MUR bonds, we will require their National Identity Card or a valid Passport or a certified true copy of same and a recent proof of address (not more than three months old), where the name of the client and his permanent address are clearly indicated.
Application forms will be provided on request.
Investing in Mutual Funds
For all new clients who wish to invest or redeem via SBM Securities Ltd in Mutual Funds, we will require their National Identity Card or a valid Passport or a certified true copy of same and a recent proof of address (not more than three months old), where the name of the client and his permanent address are clearly indicated.

Individuals
Documents to be submitted by Individual Investors, both residents and foreigners:
- National Identity Card or valid Passport
- A recent proof of address (not more than three months old), where the name of the applicant and his permanent address are clearly indicated.
- A Marriage Certificate where applicable or a certified true copy of same.
- In case of a minor, the birth certificate and National Identity Card of the legal guardian will also be required.
*Foreign investors are requested to open a Mauritian Rupee bank account into which dividends will be deposited in case they opt for direct credit or they can request to be paid dividends by cheque.
Private Companies
Documents to be submitted by Private Companies:
- Original or certified true copy of Certificate of incorporation
- Memorandum and Articles of Association (Otherwise, a letter certifying no constitution/memorandum is applicable will need to be produced)
- Register and consent of Directors and shareholders
- Board Resolution authorising the opening and operation of a Trading Account with SBM Securities Ltd
- Business Registration Card
- Copy of License if dealing in financial products
- Copy of annual reports and accounts (audited where applicable)
- KYC of Directors and major Shareholders (National ID/passport and Proof of address or a certified true copy of same)
- KYC of authorised persons (National ID/passport and Proof of address or a certified true copy of same)
- Letter disclosing the Ultimate Beneficial Owner
- FATCA
- A brief on the business operations of the company
Global Business Companies
- Documents to be submitted by Global Business Companies:
- Certificate of Incorporation.
- Financial Services Commission license or Updated renewal fee receipt
- Letter of no Memorandum or constitution of the company

- Ordinance of Corporation Incorporated by an Act of Parliament
- Board Resolution authorising the opening of a trading account at CDS
- National Identity Card or valid Passport from at least two directors actively engaged and a recent proof of their permanent residence
*The foreign Corporate Body must open a Mauritian Rupee bank account into which dividends payable by cheque may be deposited by the custodian bank.
Trusts
Documents to be submitted by Trusts:
- Certificate of Registration of the Trust
- Trust Deed or Pertinent extracts thereof.
- National Identity Card or valid Passport.
Succession
- Documents to be submitted for Succession:
- Death Certificate of the deceased.
- Affidavit or Notarial deed identifying heirs (notoriété après décès)
- National Identity Card or valid Passport for all heirs and a recent proof of address (not more than three months old), where the name of the heir and his permanent address are clearly indicated.
Proxies
Documents to be submitted by Proxies:
- Power of Attorney
- National Identity Card or valid Passport.
- A recent proof of address (not more than three months old), where the name of the proxy and his permanent address are clearly indicated.
